FAQ

Explore answers to some of the most frequently asked questions by prospective Onix customers.

What makes Onix Work different from other equipment management software?

Onix is the only equipment management platform that allows all stakeholders (equipment owners, inspectors and suppliers) to work in one place for control and compliance.

Unlike other equipment management software, Onix is completely independent. That means data is always accessible, not locked to a single stakeholder (like an inspector or supplier), always consolidated and always in the owner/user’s control. No more searching for documentation between multiple supplier portals or in the back of filing cabinets. All equipment information is up to date in one place, at the touch of a button.

APIs allows for seamless integration with existing systems, and easy collaboration between stakeholders.

The platform’s automated compliance tracking, real-time data access and intuitive design make it simple to maintain high safety standards.

How does the Onix software platform work?

Onix is a cloud-based equipment compliance management system (ECMS) for managing, tracking and sharing equipment data and documentation digitally. It gives a real-time overview and full history of equipment for simple compliance with safety laws.

The platform is designed around equipment owners. They have a living equipment database which supplier and inspectors help to strengthen by working within the system. All reports, documentation and certificates are managed digitally in the platform.

This is how the platform and its functionality is built:

All Onix packages have the platform’s base functionality which is a live database for equipment management. It allows the creation of digital equipment twins that include all essential information such as user manuals, DOCs, original certification, inspection history and statuses. Onix QR, RFID and NFC Tags can be connected to give instant access to this digital database.

Equipment owners can connect their accounts with their inspectors and suppliers to receive digital documentation instantly in one place. Receive a new lifting strap from your supplier? Get the documentation package in your Onix account. Book an inspection of your lifting equipment? Have inspectors deliver digital reports and certificates in Onix. No more paperwork chaos.

In Field Control and Inventory Control packages, users gain additional tools for a greater level of control. These include the Worker app (a field tool for daily equipment tasks such as pre-use checks) and Tool Store (equipment tracking tool).

Onix also has specialized tools for suppliers and inspectors to help them deliver to customers in the platform. Explore the supplier and inspector pages for more information.

Which package do I need?

The package you need will depend on the scope and scale of your operations. Onix packages are designed on four levels. Below is a rough guide to help you understand. For the full list of features per package, see the table above.

Compliance Control if:

  • Your main focus is audit control and compliance readiness.
  • You are primarily looking for digital documentation and an overview of inspection schedules.
  • Your planned users are mainly managers with desktop access.

Field Control if:

  • You want tools for on-site safety as well as overall compliance.
  • You work with limited internet connection (such as offshore) and require offline functionality.
  • You want all employees to have a dedicated log in for issue reporting, pre-use checks, competence controls and information access.
  • Your planned users are managers with desktop access and all equipment users with app access.

Inventory Control if:

  • You want equipment traceability as well as on-site safety tools, offline functionality and overall compliance
  • You want to digitalize your tool crib by live tracking of equipment use, location and booking
  • Your users are tool crib operators with a dedicated check in/out system, managers with desktop access and all equipment users with app access.

Deciding on the right package depends on your unique needs. Our sales teams are here to help. Get in touch and they will guide you through the process based on your goals.

Can I integrate Onix with my other systems?

Yes. Onix operates an API, which supports integrations of third-party software. Access to tokens is included in the Inventory Control package to enable customers to integrate Onix with their existing systems.

Integrations are customers or third-party partner led. Onix does not carry out integration development, but supports the work with full API documentation, expertise and guidance. Recommended integration partners can be found here

What are the differences between the packages?

The packages vary based on levels of control. Higher control packages include additional tools and features such as on-site applications, inventory management, customizable dashboards and offline modes.

Packages are designed to be scalable based on user need. Compliance Control provides the basics for digital equipment management. Field Control provides day to day on-site tools. Inventory Control adds equipment tracking and project planning functionality. Enterprise Control adds master account functionality and custom support for large operations.

What is the site-based pricing model?

Onix is a software platform for equipment management that provides the greatest value when all stakeholders are active within the software. It is designed with functionality for equipment owners, users, inspectors and suppliers. To ensure that equipment data is managed, tracked and shared effectively, Onix has a site-based pricing model.

This site-based model means that Onix software is not limited to individual seats. Each package has a generous user allowance that supports full site engagement in equipment management.

In practice, this means pricing is determined by a tiered system of functionality on a site level. Packages can be upgraded to meet increased control needs. In addition, a fee is applied based on equipment volume managed in Onix. This fee relates to data usage and helps to support a more customizable pricing structure to provide the best value for money for customers.

Which packages have offline mode?

Field Control, Inventory Control and Enterprise Control have offline functionality included. Equipment tasks can be completed without internet connection and updated in Onix when back online.

How do I find out which package is right for me?

Our sales teams are here to help you find the right package. Get in touch and they will guide you through the process based on your needs.

Can I combine packages for multiple sites?

Yes. If you have multiple sites, we can support you to find the right package for each site. You can mix and match site packages according to need, ensuring you get the best value for your operations.

If you have large enterprise scale operations, our team can help build you a custom solution that could include services such as developer support and custom functionality.

Our sales team will support you to find the right packages for your operations. Don´t hesitate to get in touch if you have questions.

Can I add individual features to a package?

You cannot add individual features to a package. Onix packages have set functionality based on a tiered site-based system. They are designed to offer simplicity for customers and to encourage effective use of Onix for the best results.

Can I add additional users to my package?

Additional users cannot be added outside of the included package users. Adding users above the package limit requires an upgrade to the next package.

Onix has moved away from seat-based pricing to support easier adoption for its customers. Site-based pricing supports a larger number of users which helps customers gain the most value from the platform.

How do additional equipment costs work?

In addition to an annual site-based cost, Onix customers pay for data usage based on the number of equipment they create in the system. As with the site packages, equipment packages are graduated. The price per equipment reduces the larger the equipment volumes managed.

Equipment costs are billed annually and if the volume exceeds your package, you will be contacted by your Customer Success Manager.

Can I upgrade my plan over time?

Yes. Onix sees many customers expand their use of the platform as they realize the benefits for their business.

Onix plans can be upgraded to higher control levels at any time to unlock features such as the Worker app in the Field Control package and Tool Store in the Inventory Control package. Dedicated customer support contacts can help guide you through this process. All subscriptions are billed annually.

I am already an Onix customer and want to change my plan, how do I do this?

If you are an existing Onix customer, you may have a contract with the old Onix pricing. To make changes to your plan, please reach out to your customer support contact who will provide information on the new pricing model and how it affects you.

Can pricing plans be adjusted for my needs?

Price plans are fixed based on the package selected. Features and users cannot be adjusted within packages, instead users will need to upgrade to the next level of functionality. The Onix sales team will help you select the plan that fits your needs.

Does Onix offer a free trial?

Onix does not offer the option of a free trial. That’s because the quality of the product is high and the entry cost to the software is comparatively very low.

For Onix customers to experience the full benefits of the software, they need to make a commitment to process change and improvement. This is best achieved through a longer-term subscription and not a short-term trial. Experience has shown that when users commit to Onix, they see significant value in equipment control, time saving, cost saving and peace of mind.

How are plans billed?

All of our plans are billed annually.

How do I onboard my team/business to Onix Work?

Onix offers a tailored onboarding process for new customers.

After building a plan that suits your needs with the Onix sales team, the customer success team will begin implementing an onboarding plan.

Like the Onix subscription, it will be tailored to the needs of your business and will ensure that you receive the tools and support you need to realize the benefits of Onix Work.

What happens if I have a question or problem?

Onix has a dedicated customer support team that can help with general and technical questions. Simply email support@onix.com with a short description of your query and the team will get back to you as soon as possible.

Support queries are actively monitored 12 hours per day on weekdays.

Can I suggest updates to the software?

The Onix technical development team are always glad to hear your suggestions and queries. Through Onix Community, you can contact the technical team as well as access information and support documents.

Is Onix software secure?
