The Nordic leader in fall protection training, inspection and equipment supply applies climbing principles of improvement to its software for equipment compliance.
AAK Safety is the Nordic leader in fall protection training, inspection and equipment supply. Founded by some of Norway’s strongest mountain climbers in the climbing mecca of Åndalsnes (home to Trollveggen), the company is deeply connected to its sporting roots.
Since 1987, the expert team at AAK safety has been sharing its knowledge on safe work at heights across a wide range of industries including energy, maritime, offshore, power and public services. The team, which had the first ever certified belay leaders in Norway, offers training and advisory services to customers as well as supplying and inspecting fall protection equipment. In its 30-year history, AAK Safety has been at the forefront of developing practices that have contributed to safer work at heights.
AAK Safety offers expert training for specialist work at heights.
Supplying and inspecting fall protection equipment requires a lot of documentation. All equipment needs to be delivered to customers with the correct documents such as the declaration of conformity. Its origin, history and documents need to be easily accessible and stored for ten years. When inspecting, documents need to be delivered that certify the inspection and can be kept by owners to demonstrate compliance with relevant regulations.
These piles of documents cause headaches for AAK Safety as a supplier and service provider, and for customers who need to access and manage them as equipment owners. Creating, storing and managing documents is time consuming and complex. Finding a solution to these challenges that would improve operations and customer experience was a priority for AAK Safety.
As a company with its roots in the climbing scene, that prides itself on constant innovations and knowledge sharing, the team were open to all options. When a customer asked AAK Safety to explore Onix as a digital tool to tackle paperwork, the team jumped in with both feet.
AAK Safety began exploring Onix Work to generate and deliver documents to customers on the supply side of its business. The company stocks over 4,000 different types of fall protection equipment and delivers it with documentation to customers all over the Nordics. With Onix Work and Onix tools for suppliers, the team could register equipment, generate documentation and deliver it all in one place.
Onix allows suppliers to provide digital documentation to customers.
AAK Safety now uses Onix Work for all its supply work, delivers documents in Onix Express to give customers easy access, and even provides products with Onix Tags by customer request. These customers can then scan equipment and gain instant access to all documents and records.
The team has also implemented digital solutions for inspection work using Onix Inspect. When on customer sites or in the AAK Safety workshop, they complete inspections on tablets using pre-prepared checklists. Images can be added and documents generated that are easily accessible in digital formats for customers.
AAK Safety has seen many benefits after the switch from manual tools to Onix. These include:
It is these benefits that have led AAK Safety to become a partner and reseller of Onix products. That means they can support customers to implement digital processes that can help with their equipment management. This development has been natural for AAK Safety, as a company that focus on building competence and sharing knowledge – central values taken from its roots in the climbing community.
