Global energy giant, Shell, looks to Onix Work for total equipment control to support compliance and safety goals.
Shell is an energy industry giant with significant operations around the globe. In Norway, these operations require a huge amount of equipment including everything from gas detectors to loose lifting equipment. Every piece of equipment in operation must have the correct documentation, inspection records, and be easily tracked.
Traditionally companies have tried to navigate this minefield of paperwork with ring binders or basic programs. This was the case for Shell, which relied heavily on paper processes with information spread across multiple siloed platforms. As a result, Shell experienced wasted time, unnecessary complexity and problems meeting its own work criteria.
With safety and compliance in mind, the company knew it had to put focus on improving its equipment management. Developing a bespoke solution for this was identified as being too costly and time consuming.
Shell chose to use Onix Work to provide a complete equipment management system that was open, accessible, and could provide value throughout the equipment lifecycle.
Onix Work is the overarching equipment compliance management software (ECMS) that stores, manages, visualizes and shares all data for equipment compliance and oversight. With Onix Work, Shell could access equipment information through a desktop portal or app and share through the cloud.
Shell also implemented Onix Tool Store for everyday management of equipment. This additional module allows the tracking of location, user and compliance for all equipment.
With Onix Tags in addition, equipment could be scanned using handheld devices to identify and check documentation.
Shell also required that equipment inspectors use Onix Inspect to seamlessly identify and inspect equipment. With Onix Inspect, all inspection paperwork and records could be automatically received and stored in Shell’s Onix Work portal alongside all other equipment documentation.
Seeing the value of this all-inclusive ECMS, Shell also chose to buy equipment from the supplier Certex, which provides original documentation through Onix Work.
With Onix, Shell now has a clear overview of all necessary information in one open system.
Equipment documentation, certifications, inspection records and use logs are all managed digitally in one place. Suppliers and inspectors can input new reports and documentation directly to Onix Work, while equipment owners, administrators and HSE teams across Shell can access data and contribute to equipment management.
The result of this has been improved oversight of all equipment, better collaboration internally and externally, more efficient operations and ultimately improved safety.
