Beluga Subsea is an expert in subsea lifting with variable buoyancy systems (VBS). The team develops systems that are maneuvered using an ROV to lift items up to 4.2 tons from the seabed.
The company delivers systems and project support to major players in the offshore industry including Equinor, DeepOcean and Subsea 7 to enable operations in complex conditions.

Delivering variable buoyancy systems (VBS) for subsea lifting projects requires accurate planning to ensure customers have everything they need to start operations offshore.
The systems themselves must be checked, packed and delivered with the correct documentation. The same must be completed for accompanying lifting equipment like shackles, slings and hoses.
Beluga Subsea previously used manual methods for the planning and assembly of these mobilization kits. Items would be individually identified and cross referenced with a range of Excel lists to gather the right data and documentation. Inspection dates were manually written on equipment. These processes were complex, time consuming and the team didn’t feel they were effective enough. They began looking for a solution that would reduce reliance on paperwork and improve accuracy.
The team saw equipment tagged with Onix Tags from other operators offshore. After investigating, they realized the potential Onix software could offer for their equipment planning and management.
They began implementing Onix Work to create digital twins of every item of equipment in the software. Now each item can be managed and tracked digitally with all essential information like location, inspection status, history and certification available to anyone that needs it.
